We hear so much about carbon footprints and how they should be reduced. While the importance of this should not be undermined in any way, what about our “Water Footprint”? How much of an impact do you have on the environment with the way you use (or misuse) water? Each and every way in which you can save water, recycle water and harvest rain water will reduce your water footprint. This should not be confined to your home either. At your place of work or in a public area, do the same as you would do at home. Do not leave taps running while you are washing your hands, close taps left running by others and report dripping taps and leaking toilets to the relevant person (and then follow up to see that something is done). We seem to think that because someone else is paying for the water, it’s OK to waste. That is so far from the truth. We will all pay when our precious supply runs out!
Here are three steps to take today:
1) Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
2) Make sure there are no water leaks in your home or on your property.
3) Take shorter showers and shallower baths.
You do not have to change your lifestyle – just change your mindset!
